Mary Ellen & Miss Wings ![]() Photo by Mary Ellen "Angel Scribe"© Pat and Ray with the love of their life, 4 year old Soxsie, a Papillon and long haired Chihuahua mix. TALES Talk about cute! Soxsie's sparkling brown eyes twinkle as she does a happy-little-welcoming-dog-dance at your feet! What a delightful way to experience Pat and Ray's life with Soxsie. It's no wonder people love their pets! They add joy and laughter to their lives.
Soxsie's full name is Soxsie Moxsie Cunningham. She was named by Pat's brother, Al. Al looked at Soxsie's four white fur-sox and thought that the little dog also had a lot of moxie. For good measure, he picked a last name for her, straight out of the blue, permanently attaching it to the puppy. Soxsie loves jumping into Al's arms and being held at eye level, which Al happily complies with. When Pat saw what was going on she commented in her bubbly New York accent, "Ya right! Like I am going to walk around all day holding a puppy at eye level! It is not going to happen!" And it didn't! Soxsie has her own Doggy-Armoire, that contains an extensive wardrobe. The clothes are all from Pat's mother. Recently, 'Grandma' gave Soxsie an Oregon Duck T-shirt and a toy football for the Oregon and Washington football game. With two full boxes of toys, Soxsie's favorite game is rough housing with her 'Daddy Ray.' She loves their one-on-one tag. Oh, and so does Ray! Pat and Ray have a flower watering can on their patio. At watering time, Soxsie bolts first out the screen door, then as Pat waters the plants, Soxsie insists on drinking the water as it falls from the can. Their next door neighbor John laughs and says, "Are you watering your dog again?" "Ray uses a walker and Soxsie's size and weight are a benefit. Ray ties Soxsie's leash to the handle." Pat continues with a smile, "I watch them leave the apartment, and walk down the ramp of Riverview Terrace Apartments, walking side by side. It warms my heart to see them together." Pat's mother has two dogs, Chex, a Border Collie, and Angus a Golden Retriever. When little Soxsie visits 'Grandmas' house, Chex acts like an irritated older teenage cousin. He does not want to play with his little visitor. Soxsie's in love with Chex. She kisses him, while playfully hopping and dancing around him. Lately, when Chex hears Soxsie arrive; Chex runs to the main bathroom, turns around, and pushes the door closed with his nose...for privacy! TIPS Georgiana, emailed in her pet peeve; when people dump animals. "Don't people realize that when an animal is dumped, the animal suffers the same plights that befall humans? Animals starve, get sick, hit by vehicles, cancer, injured by other animals etc. Neutering and spaying helps prevent the suffering of so many of your pet's future offspring. Even if you take care of your pet, once it's babies are given away, you have no idea if their owners will abandon them in the future, or neuter and spay them (no matter what they tell you). From your home, the vicious cycle of unwanted pets can begin and escalate." ________________ Readers Tips are appreciated! Send in what you learned to make your pet's life easier.
